The Maude Fife Room (315 Wheeler Hall) is a 2,010 square feet room, set up in a theatre style with detached wooden chairs and with a maximum occupancy of 150 persons. There is a stage 2 feet high, 31 and 1/2 feet long, and 7 feet deep.
The stage is furnished with a podium (with reading light and microphone) and 2 long tables. There is an additional small table in the back of the room. The room is equipped with a distributive sound system. This system powers the podium microphone, a lapel microphone, a table microphone and a wireless, hand held microphone. All microphones can be used simultaneously if they are not too close together. The sound system can be used for recording lectures and also has the capability of playing compact disks. An operating manual is located in the locked cabinet in the sound system rack. The system is pre-programmed and it needs basically no adjustment once it is turned on.
There is no video capability in this room. Projections can be made onto the stage wall. The department does have a laptop and portable projector, but we have no portable speakers except those that are built into the laptop, so the user will probably have to provide additional equipment. The Educational Technology Services Office (formerly Media Services Office) offers a range of audio visual equipment which may be rented. See their reservation procedures and fees at http://ets.berkeley.edu/EventSupport/EquipmentInfo/.
If you're expecting 45 or fewer people, you might consider using the English Department Media Room, which has much better video capabilities.
The room has an internet port available, but usually requires a long ethernet cable to use (depending on where the computer is set up) which can make for slow loading speeds. Contact Darrend Brown well ahead of time to get the connection configured.
