Description

“The”? “American”? “Novel”? We will apply pressure to all three of these terms as we read some of the best known, long-ish works of prose fiction written by U.S. authors in the 20th and 21st centuries. Rather than establishing a single history or canon, we will consider the range of possibilities offered by this genre over time and in this place.

Written assignments for the course will include frequest online Discussion posts, 2-3 essays, and a take-home final exam.

The list of novels for the course has not been finalized; the ones given here are just a serving suggestion.
