The UC Berkeley Department of English celebrates the publication of The Cambridge History of Irish Poetry, a new volume edited by Professor Eric Falci and published by Cambridge University Press. Bringing together scholars of Irish poetry across periods and traditions, the volume offers a wide-ranging history of poetry on the island of Ireland and its relationship to poetic traditions beyond its shores.
As Professor Falci notes, The Cambridge History of Irish Poetry “is the first comprehensive history of Irish poetry from the beginnings of the tradition in the 6th century to the present.” Spanning centuries of poetic production, the volume “attends to the crucial developments in the history of Irish poetry as well as the social, political, and cultural conditions underlying those developments, including the complex position of poets in Ireland during different historical eras,” (Cambridge University Press).
We offer our congratulations to Professor Falci on the publication of this important new volume!
