English Department 2022 Commencement Spotlight

The English Department 2022 Commencement was a success! 250 English major graduates gathered to celebrate this special moment with family, friends and classmates. Below we selected a few photos that highlight Thursday, May 19, 2022.

The current Chair, Ian Duncan welcomes class of 2022.

Wajahat Ali is a English major alumni from Cal and was selected to give our Commencement Address. Wajahat is an acclaimed author, columnist, and public speaker.

RECEPTION

After the ceremony, graduates and their families are invited to attend the reception located in Lower Sproul.

CAP & GOWN

Caps and gowns are available to purchase at the Official Cal Student Store (2560 Bancroft Way) and in the Graduation Department at Fall Rush (2470/2480 Bancroft Way). Cal Student Store Cap and Gown Pricing

TICKETS

All graduating English majors (Fall '21, Spring '22 & Summer '22) may purchase up to three additional guest tickets at $15 each starting April 1 at noon, through CalPerformances and must contact CalPerformances directly to place an order. No paper tickets will be sold at the CalPerformances Box Office and students will receive email tickets. These additional tickets are available on a first come, first serve basis. It is recommended to purchase as soon as possible as tickets are limited and not guaranteed/reserved.

In the event that all of our complimentary tickets are not claimed by early May, the English department may be opening more guest ticket sales at a later date (early May). Please be sure to reserve seats early.

HONOR CORDS

All English students who complete H195A and B are eligible to purchase an Honor Cord from the Cal Student Store. Please include your first and last name and “English Department Honors” while ordering so that the Student Store can confirm your Honors status. 

DIRECTIONS & PARKING

During commencements, student "S" permit areas will be open to the public at the hourly rate.  Drivers must purchase parking from the "pay by space" dispensing machines. For more information about parking, visit the UC Berkeley Parking and Transportation Special Event Parking Website(external link).

Please also consider avoiding parking stress by using the BearTransit shuttle service. Shuttle lines circuit the campus at approximately 12-24 minute intervals. View the BearTransit page for transit information, shuttle schedules and route maps.

Area hotels fill up in May. If you have family or friends coming to your ceremony from out of town, suggest that they make reservations immediately.
