My work lives at the intersection of literature and philosophy. It is an attempt to reanimate, or at least describe the conditions of possibility for thinking, what “Life” (in the thickest sense) is left over to history on the other side of literary representation. In pursuit of these conditions, my work reads America’s reception of philosophies primarily born on the European continent in the middle of the 18th century as they come to expression in or engage with American literature in the 19th and 20th century. That the texts I study are primarily written by artists and thinkers of African descent makes this a project on the matter of “Black Life”.
