We're delighted to bring you this reading list from Professor Emeritus Hertha D. Sweet Wong to celebrate Native American Heritage Month. Of the list, Professor Wong writes: "There is such a rich and varied abundance of Indigenous literature that this brief sampling could be vastly longer. 'First Wave' simply refers to titles and authors associated with the tremendous Native literary production that began in the 1960s and 70s (referred to controversially as 'the Native American Renaissance'), launched by N. Scott Momaday's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, House Made of Dawn. 'Second Wave' refers both to more recent publications, but also to the younger generation of Indigenous writers and their often 'irreverent' voices."
